Silk Press Vs. Flat Iron Vs. Blowout! WTH ARE THEY??

I’ve been seeing the term “silk press” be thrown around very loosely lately, and I’m not sure if it’s a marketing ploy because it’s trendy, or because people genuinely don’t know the difference between Silk pressing, Blowouts, & Straightening/Flat Ironing hair.

Silk Pressing is when you alter NATURAL or highly textured hair with professional products that may include some sort of silk/silicone/ or serum base. The flat iron hot tools then help infuse the products for a silky relaxed looking finish. (mine include going under the dryer with suran wrap covering the hair). The Silk press is literally a modern day press and curl. It is for natural hair ONLY since relaxed hair is already straight, no pressing is necessary.. (unless you stretch out your relaxers then you can press out the new growth to match the relaxer )

A Blowout is achieving a straighter look using only a blow dryer and some sort of round brush or brush. (Not the same as a Dominican blow out either!)

A flat iron or straightening service is when you straighten already straight or relaxed hair with a hot plate tool.
